Ginebra San Miguel reimagines iconic label as salute to Philippine Olympic athletes

Ginebra San Miguel salutes the courage and never-say-die spirit of Filipino athletes competing at the Tokyo Olympics with a reimagination of its iconic bottle label. The trending social media post from Ginebra San Miguel’s Facebook page features athletes in different sporting events such as boxing, swimming, gymnastics, athletics, and weightlifting. The original bottle label of Ginebra San Miguel was created by the first National Artist Fernando Amorsolo.
Ginebra San Miguel first came out with a reimagined label at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year. Inspired by the heroes of the pandemic, the image of St. Michael the Archangel vanquishing the devil, was turned into artworks honoring the frontliners, a new breed of heroes that includes doctors, nurses, security guards, factory workers, couriers, and other essential workers.
The Ginebra San Miguel frontliner label that went viral last year was recognized by AD STARS Creative Award in Busan, South Korea, and One Club for Creativity in Beijing, China as one of the best creative works in Asia Pacific for 2020.
Ginebra San Miguel also responded to the clamor of netizens to make these artworks an actual bottle label by releasing a limited edition Kuwatro Kantos featuring the healthcare workers.
The release of the Ginebra San Miguel Olympics-inspired label comes on the heels of the Olympic Gold medal win of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz who made history as the first Philippine athlete to achieve such a feat. Diaz previously won the Olympics Silver medal in the Rio Olympics. She was featured as one of Ginebra San Miguel’s brand ambassadors in the “Ginebra Ako” TV ad campaign in 2019 with Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, award-winning singers Quest and KZ Tandingan, and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s Scottie Thompson.
“Our Olympic athletes prepared for this moment their whole lives. The challenges and limitations in training and the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics due to the COVID-19 pandemic inspired our athletes to persevere and to strive even more despite the uncertainty and threat to their health and safety.
